20 year-old Christian Stander was born and raised in Zimbabwe. Mostly a self-taught artist, mentored by his artistic father and for a very short period by internationally renowned artist Larry Norton, he was educated at Lomagundi College, Chinhoyi.

“My favourite medium is graphite pencils. I prefer all the forms of dry mediums over wet mediums. Oil paint is not one of my strong points but again through trial and error and any advice I am planning on mastering the medium.”

Currently an equestrian coach at Lomagundi College and passionate about horses, Christian has developed a rare talent for portraying horses. His hobbies include herpetology, wood working and horse riding. Being a woodworker he prepare all the pieces for his pyrography himself, another of his preferred mediums.

Christian’s art, especially wild animals that are native to Southern Africa, grew from accompanying his father, who used to work in the wildlife industry. “I can't describe how much I loved going with him on a game capture to translocate the animals or a game drive. I feel strongly that this is the reason why I enjoy doing wildlife in my art pieces.”
